Arthur Machen (3 Mart 1863 - 15 Aralık 1947), Gotik bilimkurgunun oluşmasına öncülük etmiş Galli yazar.

Yazarlık dışında gazetecilik, çevirmenlik ve oyunculuk da yapmıştır. Özellikle 1890'lı yıllarda, yazdığı fantastik ve korku öyküleri ile dikkat çekmiş ve edebiyat dünyasının öne çıkan isimlerinden biri olmuştur. Kelt atalarından kalma kültürle beslenen Machen, bunu kaçınılmaz bir şekilde eserlerine yansıtmış ve fantastik dünyasını kurarken bu mirası sonuna dek kullanmıştır.

Jorge Luis Borges, Machen ile ilgili şunları aktarır: “Machen için yapılacak muhtemel tanımlamalar onun yapıtlarında fark ettiğim özelliklerden çok daha önemsizdir. Bu özelliklerden biri; kötülüğün, birçok doğa ve tanrı biliminde olduğu gibi yalnızca iyiliğin yokluğu olarak var olması değil de iyiliğe karşı sürekli olarak mücadele eden bir yaratık ya da yaratıkların oluşturduğu bir koalisyon olarak var olması ve zafer kazanmasıdır.”[1]
