Tipton is a city in Mitchell County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 193 people lived there.[3]

Tipton was first called Pittsburg. It was created as Pittsburg in 1872.[4] The people realized that another Pittsburg existed in Kansas, so they changed the name to Tipton. It was named after Tipton, Iowa, the former home of a local resident.[5]

Tipton is at 39°20′22″N 98°28′15″W / 39.33944°N 98.47083°W (39.33951, -98.470904). The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.25 square miles (0.65 km2). All of it is land.[2]

The 2020 census says that there were 193 people, 99 households, and 58 families living in Tipton. Of the households, 85.9% owned their home and 14.1% rented their home.
The median age was 53.5 years. Of the people, 94.3% were White, 0.5% were Black, and 5.2% were two or more races. None were Hispanic or Latino.[3][6]

The 2010 census says that there were 210 people, 98 households, and 57 families living in Tipton.[7]
