Gove City is a city in Gove County, Kansas, United States.[4] It is also the county seat of Gove County. In 2020, 80 people lived there.[3]

Gove City was created in 1885.[5] It became the county seat in 1886, and it incorporated in 1888.[6] It is named after Grenville Gove. He was a member of the 11th Regiment Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.[7]

Gove City is at 38°57′34″N 100°29′13″W / 38.95944°N 100.48694°W / 38.95944; -100.48694 (38.959462, -100.487071). The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.24 square miles (0.62 km2). All of it is land.[2]

2020 census[change | change source]

The 2020 census says that there were 80 people, 36 households, and 19 families living in Gove City. Of the households, 88.9% owned their home and 11.1% rented their home.

The median age was 39.7 years. Of the people, 90.0% were White and 10.0% were two or more races. None were Hispanic or Latino.[3][8]

2010 census[change | change source]

The 2010 census says that there were 80 people, 37 households, and 22 families living in Gove City.[9]

Education[change | change source]

Gove is a part of USD 292 Wheatland. The Wheatland High School mascot is a Thunderhawk.[10]

Gove High School was closed through school unification. The Gove High School mascot was the Gove Panthers.[11]
