Bird City is a city in Cheyenne County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 437 people lived there.[3]

Bird City was created in 1885.[4] It was named after Benjamin Bird, a cattleman.[5] The area around the city was originally used for livestock grazing.[6]

Bird City was a station and shipping point on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.[7]

Bird City is at 39°44′58″N 101°31′58″W / 39.74944°N 101.53278°W / 39.74944; -101.53278 (39.749514, -101.532765). The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 2.27 square miles (5.88 km2). All of it is land.[2]

The Köppen Climate Classification system says that Bird City has a semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps.[8]

The 2020 census says that there were 437 people, 205 households, and 112 families living in Bird City. Of the households, 66.8% owned their home and 33.2% rented their home.

The median age was 47.8 years. Of the people, 81.2% were White, 0.5% were Asian, 7.6% were from some other race, and 10.8% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.2% of the people.[3][9]

The 2010 census says that there were 447 people, 211 households, and 118 families living in Bird City.[10]
