Bern is a city in Nemaha County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 161 people lived there.[3]

Bern had started in the late 1880s when a railroad was built through that territory.[4] It was named by Swiss immigrants after Bern, the capital of Switzerland.[5][6]

Bern is at 39°57′41″N 95°58′16″W / 39.96139°N 95.97111°W / 39.96139; -95.97111 (39.961415, -95.971065).

The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.28 square miles (0.73 km2). All of it is land.[2]

2020 census[change | change source]

The 2020 census says that there were 161 people, 66 households, and 39 families living in Bern. Of the households, 75.8% owned their home and 24.2% rented their home.

The median age was 38.8 years. Of the people, 90.1% were White, 1.9% were Native American, 3.1% were from some other race, and 5.0% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the people.[3][7]

The 2010 census[8] says that there were 166 people, 81 households, and 45 families living in Bern.
