I Costa Book Awards sono stati una serie di premi letterari assegnati a scrittori residenti nel Regno Unito e in Irlanda[1] pubblicati l'anno precedente[2].
Istituiti a partire dal 1971 per celebrare i "libri più divertenti dell'anno"[3] come Whitbread Awards, hanno cambiato il loro nome in quello attuale nel 2006 quando è subentrato il nuovo sponsor Costa Coffee[4].
Sono suddivisi in cinque categorie: Romanzo d'esordio, Romanzo, Libro per ragazzi, Biografia, Poesia[5] alle quali si è aggiunta dal 2012 una sesta: Raccolta di racconti[6].
Ad ogni vincitore viene riconosciuta una cifra pari a 5000£ e, a partire dal 1985, l'autore del libro dell'anno scelto tra i premiati si aggiudica ulteriori 30000£[7].
Il riconoscimento è stato cancellato improvvisamente il 10 giugno 2022 dopo 50 anni di attività[8].
