L'Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) est une association à but non lucratif anglaise importante, dont le champ d'action concerne le cycle complet des matériaux, de la prospection minière au recyclage. Son rôle est de développer tous les aspects de la science des matériaux, de l'ingénierie, de la géologie, des procédés industriels.
Histoire[modifier | modifier le code]
L'Institut a ses racines dans l'Iron and Steel Institute (à ne pas confondre avec l'American Iron and Steel Institute), qui fut fondé en 1869 pour renforcer les maîtres de forges face à la concurrence européenne qui se renforçait. Cet institut reçu ses chartes royales en 1899 et 1975[1].
