English: Drawing from an almanac issued by the Danish language association (Sprogforeningen) from 1910, depicting two girls from Sønderjylland, wearing the rural clothing of the islands Föhr and Als, standing between two runestones in front of the Valdemar Wall in the historical Dannevirke fortification. In the background, a map of Sønderjylland with its name oblierated by black bars, since the region's Danish name "Sønderjylland" had been outlawed by Prussian authorities in 1895. The girls represent both the eastern and the western parts of the province, one from either of the post-1920 North and Southern Schleswig. The line crossing the region near the city of Flensburg shows the region's contemporary language border between Danish and German.
Date between 1895-1910. First version of the image: c. 1880. One of the girls depicted died in 1883.
