The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) is a professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team.[2] that competes from the inaugural season of International League T20 (ILT20).[3] Originally announced in 2022, the team is based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Franchise History[edit]
Background[edit]
In August 2022, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) announced the establishment of the International League T20, a Twenty20 Cricket competition to be started in 2023.The teams for the competition, representing 6 different cities of United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi, were put up on auction in UAE on September 2022.The Abu Dhabi franchise was purchased & revealed by Kolkata Knight Riders, part of Knight Riders Franchise. The team unveiled their logo and jersey in January 2023, through their social media handles.
2023 Season[edit]
In the opening season, the team played a total of 10 matches as home & away matches with 5 other teams. ADKR lost the first match against Dubai Capitals by 73 runs & lost all the first 5 matches in a bad streak. Then the 6th match of ADKR against Gulf Giants was abandoned without a ball bowled. Again, ADKR lost the next 3 matches. So, after 9 matches (5 lost + 1 no-result + 3 lost), ADKR finally won the last match against Sharjah Warriors by 5 wickets but that was not enough to a make place to the playoffs. So, in the first season ADKR won only one match.
