Chicken karahi (literally Chicken Wok) is a popular Pakistani dish, in which chicken is prepared in a wok. The Original Chicken Karahi in Peshawari style is prepared using only chicken (called shinwari karahi if lamb is used instead of chicken), tomatoes, chili, ginger and salt. Moving down south towards Lahore, the taste and methods of preparation change with addition of more spices, garlic, yogurt, and in some places, cream and coconut milk.

The dish is prepared in a karahi (a type of wok) and can take between 30 and 50 minutes[1][2] to prepare and cook the dish. Ginger, garlic, tomatoes, green chilli and coriander are key to the flavor of the dish.[3] What distinguishes chicken karahi from other curries from the region is that traditionally, it is cooked without onions in the base, and instead uses just tomatoes, ginger and garlic.[4] It is usually served with Pakistani bread, naan, and goes well with Afghani naan. This dish is one of the hallmarks of Lahori and Pashtun cuisine in Pakistan.[5][6]
